On May 16, Dayton police officers responded to the stabbing around 6 p.m., according to a news release.

Atkins told police he had been stabbed. Adkins was taken to the hospital, but died several hours later during surgery.

According to police, Vance was providing first aid to Atkins when officers arrived.

Witness statements and video surveillance evidence showed Vance and Adkins had been in an argument in the parking lot. That’s when prosecutors said Vance pulled a knife and stabbed Adkins in the chest.

Vance is currently in custody in the Montgomery County Jail.
