Funeral arrangements announced for Richmond Officer Seara Burton

RICHMOND — Funeral arrangements have been announced for fallen Richmond Police Officer Seara Burton.

The Richmond Police Department said that a viewing for Burton will be held at the Richmond City building on Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Tiernan Center at Richmond High School.

A procession from the funeral will end at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis. Burton will be laid to rest in the section dedicated to Heroes of Public Safety, the police department announced.

“The public is invited to attend services to show their respect and honor Officer Burton and her sacrifice for the City of Richmond,” the police department said in a statement.

Burton died Sunday evening, five weeks after she was shot during a traffic stop on Aug. 10.

In announcing her passing, the Richmond Police Department thanked the Richmond community for its support:

“We would sincerely like to thank the Richmond community, and those who have supported Seara, her Family, and the Department from near and far. Thank you to all of those who have shown unbelievable support throughout this very difficult time including the Dayton Police Department, The Indiana State Police, Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police, Richmond Fire Department and Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, as well as many other agencies.”
