Suspect in custody after Washington Twp. fire; 1 taken to hospital

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP — One person was taken to the hospital after a fire in Washington Township and another person was taken into custody.

Around 6:20 p.m. Washington Township firefighters were called to the 8200 block of Hyannis Port Drive on reports of a fire, according to a media release.

When crews arrived they found heavy smoke coming from the 32-unit apartment complex with several people trapped on their balconies, as reported on News Center 7 at 11.

One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation but is in “stable condition”, according to the media release.

Our News Center 7 crew saw sheriff’s deputies put a suspect in the back of their cruiser and leave the scene.

A media release by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a man was booked into jail on an aggravated arson charge.
