Fire damages 125-year-old restaurant in Russia

UPDATE @ 3:30a.m.:

Officials say a 125-year-old restaurant in Russia was significantly damaged by fire early Sunday morning.

Crews from Shelby County along with Houston and Versailles were dispatched around 1:45 a.m. to the Russia Inn at 101 West Main Street in Russia after flames were reported showing from the building.

Firefighters say they were able to knock down the fire relatively quickly, and believe the fire started in the kitchen of the restaurant. Other parts of the building also suffered significant smoke and water damage from the blaze.

No injuries were reported and the restaurant, which closed at 10 p.m. Saturday, was empty of customers.

The cause has not been determined, but Russia Fire Department Chief Mark Shappie says the blaze is not suspicious and does not appear to be weather related.
