Vacant Schaeffer Street house consumed by flames to be demolished

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 4:40 p.m.

Officials have deemed the fire on Schaeffer Street to be suspicious in nature and plan to demolish the vacant house either today or tomorrow.

Crews initially responded to reports of a fully involved house fire and had to bring water from the surrounding area to put it out.

A home to both the left and right of the vacant house sustained some damage, but are said to still be livable despite some melted siding. The homes are inhabited. The residents evacuated and were not injured.

FIRST REPORT:

A fire reported in the 1300 block of Schaeffer Street has crews on scene battling to put out the flames.

Multiple crews have been requested to the house to assist with putting the fire out.

We are working to learn how much damage has been done and if the fire is affecting surrounding areas.
