Escaped Lima inmates steal car in Auglaize Co., lead police on chase in Kentucky

AUGLAIZE COUNTY — Two inmates who escaped from a Lima jail led officers on a chase after stealing a car out of Auglaize County.

Bradley Gillespie, 50, and James Lee, 47, are said to have escaped Tuesday from the Allen/Oakwood Correctional Institution.

Ohio State Highway Patrol was later informed Tuesday evening that the two were believed to be driving a Mercury Capri stolen out of Auglaize County, according to a media release.

The Mercury was spotted by Henderson Police Department in Kentucky early Wednesday and a chase ensued.

The chase ended with Lee in custody but Gillespie ran from officers, the release states.

To help search for Gillespie, who was in prison for a 2016 murder conviction.

To help search for Gillespie the Ohio State Highway Patrol has deployed troopers to the Henderson area — including troopers from the patrol’s aviation unit and special response team.

How the two escaped from prison is still under investigation.

A reward of up to $21,000 remains in place for information that leads to the capture of Gillespie.
