Scanner traffic initially indicated that the crash involved one person being trapped in the car. Police on scene clarified that this was because the car crashed up against a railing, keeping the right-side doors from opening.

A woman in the front passenger seat hurt her leg, so could not escape the car easily. She was taken to an area hospital.

Police reported that the driver fled the scene, making this a hit-and-run crash.

Ariana Juniel, a Harrison Twp. resident who said she walks to the bus stop in this area every morning, said the area is normally very quiet.

However, this morning, she said she was surprised by all the debris from the crash.

“I was walking up and I’m like, ‘why are there all these bright lights up here?’” she said.

She said that the idea that she might have been in the area when the crash happened was worrying, since she would likely have been on her phone with earbuds in.

“I just hope that somebody would have seen me,” she said.
