In a post on the Department of Emergency Medicine Residency’s social media page, Department Chair Dr. Brian Springer remembered Zych, who was a 1984 graduate of the program.

Springer added that some may remember Zych as a fixture in the Good Samaritan Hospital Emergency Department.

“To say they broke the mold after him would be an understatement,” Springer said in the post. “He was known for his gruff mannerisms, salty language, bushy moustache, incredible wealth of medical knowledge, and a bedside manner that made him beloved by his patients and nursing staff.”

He also worked as an EMS medical director and the Dayton Air Show medical director.

“He will be greatly missed,” Springer wrote.
