Distracted driving corridor set up in Mercer County to reduce crashes

MERCER COUNTY — A section of U.S. 33 in Mercer County will be used as a distracted driver corridor.

The temporary corridor was established to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes caused by distracted driving and other violations, according to a release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol

OSHP says the corridor is a six mile stretch of U.S. 33 from U.S. 127 to State Route 197.

Since January 1, 2019, crash data shows that 88 accidents have been attributed to distracted driving in Mercer County, according to OSHP.

OSHP is partnering with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office in an effort to reduce the amount of distracted drivers on the roadways.

The temporary corridor will begin August 1 and end on September 30.
