2 dead, 1 in critical condition after crash in Shelby Co.

SHELBY COUNTY — Two people are dead and another is in critical condition after a crash in Shelby County Wednesday.

Around 2:30 p.m. Shelby County deputies were called to a crash on SR-29 at Blanke Road.

A 2015 Honda CRV was traveling northbound on SR-29 and crossed the center line into the path of a 1989 Chevy Van traveling southbound, according to an initial investigation by Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver and passenger in the Honda CRV — Richard Girard, 66, and Sharon Girard, 70, both of Fort Wayne, Ind. — were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the 1989 Chevy Van, Jack Smith, 66, of Sidney, was taken to an area hospital and later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital where he is in critical condition, according to a media release.

Richard and Sharon Girard were taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Officer for an autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation.
