Deputies investigating fatal shooting in Wayne County

WAYNE COUNTY, Indiana — The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting after a man was found dead Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies were called respond to Treaty Line Road south of Hagerstown around 3:01 p.m. on the report of a shooting, the sheriff’s office said.

Upon arrival, officers found Thomas D. Pierce, age 39, dead at the scene. The death appeared to be the result of a gunshot wound, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said immediate investigation revealed that it appeared to be an isolated incident where both parties involved were acquainted.

“This does not appear to be a random act and there is no known threat to the community,” the sheriff’s office said.

The names of others involved in the incident are being withheld until additional investigation is completed.

Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and the Indiana State Police are still investigating the incident.
