Dayton Woman of Impact award nominees announced

Go Red for Women

DAYTON — The American Heart Association has announced the 2022 Woman of Impact nominees for Dayton.

The nominees were chosen because of their passion and drive to increase awareness and make a difference in their community and the Go Red for women movement, according to the American Heart Association.

Starting on Feb. 4, Nation Wear Red Day, Gail Whitaker, Shawon Gullette, Bethany Menke and Colleen Hayes will lead an eight-week initiative to enhance the health of women in the Dayton area.

During each week, the nominees will participate in activities that were created to encourage health and health equity in the community, according to the release.

“These women have seen the need and are rising to the challenge to combat heart disease in Dayton women,” said local Executive Director Kelli Dixon in a news release. “By using their position in the community and their local networks, they are in a unique position to further the mission of the American Heart Association and the Go Red for Women movement through awareness, education, and fundraising. They are the embodiment of being a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives for all.”

Each nominee will help raise awareness about cardiovascular disease being the number one killer of women. The nominees will also train community member in CPR, organize events and engage women in research.

According to the release, the nominees and their impact teams will set a goal and raise funds for the AHA. The nominees that make the most significant impact and have the highest impact points will be the winner of the 2022 Dayton Woman of impact award.
