UPDATE: Woman on ‘most wanted’ list, charged in New Year’s Day crash, captured in Xenia

DAYTON — UPDATE @ 9:50 a.m. (Sept. 10):

A woman on a Dayton police “most wanted” list who is facing charges stemming from a crash on New Year’s Day has been captured.

Shawna Harris, 25, was located in Xenia Friday morning and was taken into custody by Dayton police and the U.S. Marshal’s SOFAST Task Force, a police spokesperson said in a statement emailed to News Center 7.

Police requested the public’s assistance last week in locating Harris after she was indicted on charges of aggravated vehicular assault, five counts of child endangerment and two counts of OVI.

FIRST REPORT (Sept. 2):

Dayton Police are looking for a woman who has been charged with aggravated vehicular assault in connection to a crash on New Year’s Day that resulted in multiple injuries.

Shawna Harris, 25, was indicted by a Montgomery County Grand Jury in August for four counts of aggravated vehicular assault, five counts of child endangerment and two counts of OVI.

Harris has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the crash report, police said Harris was driving a black 2008 Chevrolet Malibu north on Philadelphia Drive on Jan. 1 2021 when she went left of center and hit and black 2016 Ford Fusion traveling south on Philadelphia Drive head on.

The driver of the Ford Fusion was transported to Kettering Health Dayton, formally Grandview Medical Center.

Four children were transported from the Chevrolet Malibu driven by Harris. All four children went to Dayton Children’s Hospital for their injuries. Dayton Police said a five-year-old involved in the crash was paralyzed as a result of the accident.

Harris was also transported from the scene to Miami Valley Hospital.
