Man believed killed in large fight died of natural causes, Dayton police say

UPDATE @ 3:35 p.m. (Oct. 29): Khalit Aliyev, 55, died of natural causes and not because of injuries suffered in a large fight involving several men Friday night that left him in the parking lot behind a small business, a Dayton police spokeswoman said Monday.

Aliyev suffered from a medical issue and his death is no longer considered suspicious, the spokeswoman said.

Initially, police said the Dayton resident died after a large fight near Rasul’s Turkish Delights, in the 900 block of Troy Street, near Leo Street.

As of Monday afternoon, Dayton homicide detectives are no longer investigating the man’s death as a homicide, the spokeswoman said.

Aliyev’s cause of death is listed as pending, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.

Aliyev was pronounced dead at Miami Valley Hospital late Friday night. Dayton police Lt. Matthew Beavers said investigators had a possible suspect and were working to learn if more people were involved in the man’s death.

Beavers said police were dispatched about 11 p.m. to assist a medic crew, which had been called to Troy and Leo streets on a report of a man who was having difficulty breathing. Once the medics left the scene, he said, they saw that the injuries and the cause of the injuries were from a large fight.

Police then began investigating the fight.

The victim died at the hospital, Beavers said.

The suspect, who was not described in any detail, showed up at Miami Valley Hospital, suffering from some injuries, not long after the victim was pronounced dead, the lieutenant said.

He was under guard at the hospital Friday night, Beavers said, noting that homicide detectives wanted to interview him to confirm whether he was a suspect and to see whether there were  more people involved than just him.

According to the preliminary investigation, the victim was injured in a fight involving "multiple people," Beavers said, noting that police did not yet know exactly how many people were involved in the fight.

"That we don't know," he said in answer to whether police know why the men were fighting.
