Dayton native who dedicated life to hunger relief awarded Dayton Peace Prize

DAYTON — A Dayton native who has dedicated his life to hunger relief and human rights has been awarded the Dayton Peace Prize.

Former Congressman Tony Hall served as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture in the early 2000s.

Hall’s work has impacted people from around the world from Dayton to Africa to North Korea.

Hall served the Dayton area in Congress for nearly 24 years.

Hall has been nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize and was unanimously chosen to be awarded the Dayton Peace Prize.

“I feel over the moon, it’s a wonderful feeling,” Hall said at the award ceremony Saturday.

He added it’s great to be recognized in his hometown and notes no one from Dayton has even been awarded it.

“I do it because my faith tells me to do it and I do it because I feel that it’s right,” Hall said about his accomplishments.

He was awarded the Dayton Peace Prize Saturday afternoon after being introduced by News Center 7′s Cheryl McHenry.
