Boy, 7, dies from injuries after head-on crash in Miami County Sunday

MIAMI COUNTY — A 7-year-old boy, critically injured in a crash on U.S. 36 in Fletcher Sunday morning, has died from his injuries, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.

Daniel Voris, of Urbana, died after he was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital for treatment, deputies said in a media release Monday morning.

Voris was the passenger in a pickup truck that crashed head-on into a semitrailer on U.S. 36 at South Walnut Street in Fletcher just before 7 a.m. Sunday.

The driver of the truck, Voris’ mother Britaney Kirchgessner, 28, of Urbana, remains in critical condition. Billy Shoffner, 49, of Carmel, Indiana, identified as the driver of the semitruck, was not injured in the crash, deputies said.

A preliminary investigation found Kirchgessner’s truck crossed over the centerline and crashed head-on into the semi, investigators said in the media release.

“The crash remains under investigation and findings will be turned over to the Miami County Prosecuting Attorney for review,” Chief Deputy Steve Lord said in the release.

Additional details were not released.
