Fairborn Fire Department Battalion Chief Adam Howard said that a firefighter was inside the kitchen of the structure when cabinets fell on them, injuring them. The firefighter was taken to an area hospital.

The family’s dog was killed in the fire and a cat was taken to an area vet, according to Howard.

Howard said the resident’s quick thinking to close the garage where a lot of smoke was coming from helped prevent further injuries and the fire spreading even more.
