Man dies after crashing car into Sidney house

SHELBY COUNTY — UPDATE @ 4:34 p.m.:

Crews on scene have confirmed to News Center 7 that a person has died after crashing their vehicle into a house in Sidney.

Sgt. Ed Garrett, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said the victim, Edward Gunter, 65, of Sidney, was pronounced dead on scene.

Sidney Police were conducting a wellness check on Gunter Sunday afternoon around 2:20 p.m. When officers approached the man near his home, he drove from officers, causing a short pursuit to ensue.

During the pursuit, he went into a ditch and hit a tree before crashing into a house on Dingman Slagle Road.

No one else was in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The house the man crashed into was owned by a retired Sheriff’s deputy. No one was home at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.

Crews are responding after a vehicle crashed into a house in Sidney Sunday afternoon.

Shelby County dispatch confirmed the crash happened on Dingman Slagle Road.

Dispatch was unable to confirm how the crash occurred or if anyone was injured.
