COVID-19 outbreak under investigation at Preble County camp; Remaining camp sessions cancelled

CAMDEN — UPDATE @ 10:18 P.M.:

Health officials and the families of the nearly 600 Scouts and adult Scouters were contacted immediately after the Miami Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America learned of four positive cases after the conclusion of their camp last week, according to the group.

In a statement, the Miami Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America The group said their COVID-19 mitigation measures helped limit exposure, but announced that all remaining camp season’s remaining sessions have been cancelled.

INITIAL REPORT:

Preble County Public Health is investigating a COVID-19 outbreak following a camp that was held last week in Camden.

The camp was held at Woodland Trails Scout Reservation from July 4 to July 10.

Public Health said a “COVID-19 outbreak indicates potentially extensive transmission within a setting or organization.”

This outbreak investigation comes after a COVID-19 outbreak was reported following a Baptist Church retreat at Camp Chautauqua in Miamisburg. As of Wednesday, 73 cases have been reported.

Preble County Public Health is asking anyone that attended the camp to monitor their health and watch for the following symptoms. Those who attended are asked to call Public Health to discuss their risk levels. Public Health can be reached at (937) 472-0087.
