Coroner’s office IDs victim of shooting on Northcrest Dr. in Dayton Thurday

DAYTON — A man was killed in a reported shooting on Northcrest Drive in Dayton Thursday evening.

Dayton police officers were dispatched to the Eagle Ridge Apartments on Northcrest Drive on the report of a shooting around 6:48 p.m.

Upon arrival, they encountered an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds inside of an apartment, according to Dayton police.

Medics responded, but the victim’s injuries were not survivable and he was pronounced deceased on scene, police said.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office identified Virgil Pack as the person who was killed during the incident.

According to initial emergency dispatch records, someone reported that a person had tried to break into the property prior to the shooting.

Further information has not been made available at this time and we’re working to learn more.

The incident is still under investigation and “in the early stages,” however all parties involved have been identified and interviewed, according to the police department.

Later Thursday, one person was killed and another was injured in the area of West Third Street and Gettysburg Avenue.
