Sheriff’s office ID’s man killed in head-on crash on SR 47 in Darke County

DARKE COUNTY — A man is dead after a crash between a pickup truck and semitrailer in Darke County Tuesday afternoon.

Deputies were called to respond to the crash in the 7300 block of State Route 47 near Versailles shortly before 1:30 p.m.

According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, preliminary information revealed a pickup truck driven by David Garke, 62, of Coldwater, Ohio, was eastbound on State Route 47.

Garke’s truck went left of center striking a semi-truck that was traveling westbound on State Route 47, the sheriff’s office said.

The semi-truck was driven by William Ditchley, 61, of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Garke was pronounced deceased on scene and the Darke County Coroner’s Office was called.

Ditchley was taken to Wayne Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.
