Coroner’s office rules cause of Trotwood woman’s death as undetermined

The cause of death for Myshayla Cotton, the 24-year-old Trotwood resident cut down by gunfire nearly 10 weeks ago in the home she shared with a man, has been ruled as undetermined but the case remains open.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office shared the information about Cotton with this news organization Wednesday afternoon.

Trotwood police Capt. Dan Heath said, "the case is open and and active investigation and will be presented to the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office."

Once a determination is made by the prosecutor's office, the police department will be able to provide additional information, he said.

Cotton was fatally wounded in the residence at 1 Whispering Drive on Sept. 10.

The detective working the case has interviewed the man who was in the home with Cotton when she was shot, Chief Erik Wilson said in early October.
