Coronavirus: Brookville woman embarks on journey home after U.K. travel ban

BROOKVILLE — A Brookville woman living in the United Kingdom is embarking on her journey home after the U.S. announced a travel ban to all of Europe beginning at midnight Monday.

“Once I heard that there was a travel ban on UK and Ireland, things got really real and scary,” said Kaitlin Webb.

Webb has been studying at Regent’s University in London.

She said the U.K. has been dealing with many of the issues Ohioans have been dealing with over the past few days.

“It’s been rather recently that things have started to change,” she said, adding that it’s become hard to find fresh vegetables and fruit.

Public transportation is also an issue and it’s become increasingly difficult to find an Uber.

Perhaps the biggest issue, booking airfare home.

Webb said immediately after the ban was announced she started frantically going through different airlines to book a flight back to the U.S.

She said prices were much higher than normal; however, she was able to find a decently priced British Airways flight to Chicago.

“I’m not sure what to expect when I get to Chicago,” Webb said.

Webb said once she does get back home she plans to self-quarantine as a precaution.
