Clark County to begin final goodbyes to deputy Matthew Yates

SPRINGFIELD — Family, friends, and the community will start to say their final goodbyes Sunday to Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Yates.

Yates was shot and killed Sunday while responding to reports of gunfire at a mobile home park near South Charleston.

His visitation begins Sunday afternoon at the First Christian Church on Middle Urbana Road in Springfield and goes from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Yates’ funeral is scheduled for noon Monday at the same church and will be buried at Ferncliff Cemetery in Springfield.

The procession route after the funeral from the church will go west on State Route 334 and then south on US-68, then to State Route 41 and into Ferncliff Cemetery.

For people planning to be that area, there will be traffic delays, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
