City of Dayton cracking down on illegal dumping

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

DAYTON — The city of Dayton is pushing to stop illegal dumping in an effort to protect local neighborhoods and the environment.

Illegal dumping sites across the city have trash and waste piled up, creating hazardous conditions.

In order to clean these sites up, the city of Dayton has to pay for labor, equipment and disposal costs. Last year alone, the city said they spent around $600,000 to remove 3,611 tons of debris from illegal dumping sites across the city.

In a press release, the city confirmed they monitor illegal dumping with a network of cameras. Evidence collected from those cameras can be used for criminal prosecution by the city and the Montgomery County Environmental Crimes Task Force. In 2020, 13 suspects were prosecuted for dumping in Dayton.

City officials said suspected dumpers can be reported by calling 937-333-4800 or by filling out a form here. They ask that when vehicles are observed, please report the color and make, license plate number and any identifying markings when possible.
