UPDATE: Dayton Public joins Cincinnati Public in closing schools for day after Super Bowl

UPDATE @ 1 p.m. (Feb. 1):

Dayton Public Schools joined other districts in the area including Cincinnati Public Schools and will close the Monday after the Super Bowl.

A district spokesperson said in a social media message its normal for the district to be closed Super Bowl Monday, and will follow that practice with the Cincinnati Bengals making it to the NFL’s biggest game.

Students are also encouraged to wear Bengals gear next Friday as part of the district’s Bengals Spirit Day, the spokesperson said.

FIRST REPORT (Jan. 31):

Cincinnati Public Schools announced on their Twitter page that the district will not have school the Monday after the Super Bowl.

“In honor of the Bengals’ first Super Bowl appearance since 1989, CPS will not have school on Monday, February 14!” the post reads.

The school goes on to say they’re taking the day off to hopefully celebrate what could be the Bengals’ first-ever Super Bowl win.

The announcement came the day after the Bengals beat the Kansas City Chiefs 27 to 24 in overtime.
