1 flown to hospital after rollover crash in Darke County

DARKE COUNTY — UPDATE: 10:30 p.m.

One person was flown to the hospital by CareFlight after a rollover crash in Darke County Tuesday afternoon.

Darke County Dispatch confirmed that emergency crews were called to the crash in the area of Main Street and Elm Street around 2:39 p.m.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a Jeep Liberty, driven by Todd Clemens, 49, of New Madison, was driving eastbound on SR722, according to the sheriff’s office.

Clemens’ vehicle went off the left side of the roadway and drove over a driveway, which caused his vehicle to go airborne, the sheriff’s office said. When Clemens’ vehicle came back down to the surface, he tried to gain control of the vehicle and steered back onto the roadway, but over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office says Clemens’ vehicle then over-turned and rolled several times, ejecting Clemens from the vehicle.

The vehicle came to final rest in a bean field off the left side of the road, the sheriff’s office said.

Clemens was treated at the scene by New Madison Fire and Arcanum Rescue and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight.

His condition is unknown at this time.

The accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
