2 ID’d in serious crash where car flips, tumbles over highway overpass in Morrow

UPDATE @ 4:30 p.m. (Oct. 1):

The two people taken to the hospital after the crash on Interstate 71 Saturday afternoon have been identified.

Kayla Ellison, 26, of Franklin, Tenn., and Jillian Stone, 26, of Hixon, Tenn., suffered serious injuries in the crash on I-71, according to the Lebanon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Ellison, the driver, and Stone, the passenger, were traveling in a 2009 Toyota Corolla when it went off the left side of the road and into the median near the Columbia Road overpass. The car then struck a guardrail and the wall between the two overpasses before going airborne and coming to rest along the creek next to Columbia Road.

Ellison was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital and Stone was taken by ambulance to West Chester Hospital.

Ellison and Stone were both wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Neither speed or impairment appear to be a factor in the crash that remains under investigation.

Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Union Township Fire/EMS Department, and Deerfield Township Fire/EMS Department all assisted at the scene.

FIRST REPORT:

A car went off an I-71 overpass Saturday afternoon, dropping about 100 feet before crashing into the river bed below, officials said.

The crash was reported around 2 p.m.

Reports say the crash involved one car with two people inside that landed in the Turtle Creek bed.

The left lane of I-71 South was shut down while rescue workers attempted to pull the vehicle out of the ravine.

One person was flown by CareFlight, but the names and conditions of the crash victims were not immediately known.
