The BORG, or otherwise known as Black Out Rage Gallon, is a new alcoholic drink trending on social media like TikTok. Young adults, especially college students, are creating this new mixed drink to get inebriated while attempting to not become hungover the next day.

The drink is comprised of vodka, water, Liquid I.V., and caffeine all mixed inside a gallon jug.

“I was a Liquid I.V. ambassador so, in terms of hydrating, I would have to say that I would think that it was a good idea,” Northeastern student, Daphne Peterson, said.

However, doctors disagree, stating that the gallon jug invites people to drink more.

“It actually makes it more dangerous. Rather than having a cup of alcohol and someone saying, “Finish your beer,” you have a gallon jug. And now, someone’s saying to you, you got to finish that gallon jug,” Gus Colangelo, MD, Emergency Medicine Physician at Tufts Medical Center, said.

Colangelo also stated that the ingredients inside the BORG can mask the taste of alcohol and warp someone’s perception of their alcohol intake.

Educational officials also thought the portrayal of drinking the BORG on social media has done more harm than good.

“Calling this a trendy thing is trivializing,” David Jernigan, Professor at Boston University School of Public Health, stated. “This is simply encouraging more binge drinking.”

“We see this on a nightly basis in the emergency department where people have consumed too much alcohol. Sometimes they drank five Manhattans. And, sometimes they drank a BORG,” Colangelo said.
