According to the Ohio Department of Taxation, items that are excluded from sales tax during the tax-free weekend include:

  • An Item of clothing priced at $75 or less
  • An item of school supplies priced at $20 or less
  • Item of school instructional material, priced at $20 or less

There is no dollar limit on how much is tax exempt, the exemption is based solely on the price of individual items.

The tax-free weekend includes the qualified items if they are purchased online, even if the items ship and are received after the sales tax holiday has ended. The items are exempt as long as the order is received and accepted before the end of the sales tax holiday.

Many items are excluded from the sales tax holiday, most notably protective equipment like masks and face shields, clothing accessories like jewelry and watches, and sports or recreational equipment.

More details about items included and excluded from the tax-free weekend, and answers to other questions, can be found on this FAQ website from the Ohio Department of Taxation.
