Back to School: Huber Heights rolls back plans, will go online only to start

HUBER HEIGHTS — Huber Heights City Schools has updated its back to school plans, which includes all students K-12 now beginning the school year with remote learning.

>> Coronavirus Pandemic: What you need to know Wednesday

“In countries with higher positivity rates per capita, opening full speed has been problematic. In those countries, confirmed cases of COVID-19 have risen dramatically and schools have had to close within weeks of reopening,” the district said in its revised plan released Wednesday. “The common element was their rapid return to school with 100% of students attending.”

Huber Heights City Schools will begin classes on Aug. 27 with all classes K-12 being taught remotely by Huber Heights City Schools teachers. An exception is multi-handicapped students, which will resume in-person learning immediately at the start of the school year.

The plan is a major shift from the district’s original plan which gave parents the option to select 100 percent remote learning or five-day return to in person learning in classrooms.

Under the new plan, Huber Heights City Schools is requiring that face coverings be worn by all students, staff, and visitors to our building at all times, while on school grounds and at school sponsored events.

“The lone exceptions to this are when in a classroom or office alone, while playing an instrument with the band, and eating lunch,” the district said.

Here is the return to school plan targeted timeline:

Aug. 27-Sept. 11: All students K-12 remote learning, staff teaching remotely from the school building

Sept. 14-Oct 2: Grades 4-12 continue all remote learning, K-3 moves to two days a week in person (based on alphabet) with remote learning Wednesdays.

Oct. 5-Oct 16: Grades 9-12 continue all remote learning, Grades 4-8 moves to two days a week in person (based on alphabet) with remote learning Wednesdays, Grades K-3 return to classrooms five days per week.

Oct. 19-Oct. 30: Grades 9-12 moves to two days a week in person (based on alphabet) with remote learning Wednesdays, Grades K-8 return to classrooms five days per week.

Nov. 2: All grades return to five day, in-person learning.

NOTE: For two day in person learning, students with last names A-K will go Monday, Tuesday and students with last names L-Z will go Thursday, Friday.
