His dad Carlos Macedo had no idea what to do when his wife, Juliana, said she could not make it another mile from southbound Interstate 75 to Miami Valley Hospital.

“We barely make it down the ramp and she goes, ‘I can’t do this.’ She starts unbuckling, and I’m like, ‘Please! Put your seat belt back! I’m going like 60 miles an hour on an entrance ramp,” Macedo said.

The mother-to-be had downloaded an app on her cellphone to monitor her contractions. But she said it was unreliable, and the contractions were irregular.

When her husband checked, the app said they were long overdue to be at the hospital.

After they left their Butler Twp. home, he made a frantic 911 call to report his wife couldn’t make it to the hospital.

“I get out of the car to go around to the other side to help her and by the time I open the door, she had already caught the baby midway and put it on her chest,” Macedo said.

Daniel was breathing, and screaming.

But Macedo’s work wasn’t done.

Dispatchers told him to pull out his shoelace and tie it around the umbilical cord while he waited for medics.

“I don’t know how long they took. To me it was like hours but maybe it was 2 minutes,” he said.

“It looks like my wife is just about to have a baby. I think the head is coming out,” the man told dispatch in the 911 call made around 2:40 a.m.

The mother gave birth to the baby during the 911 call after the father pulled over on I-75 southbound at State Route 4.

The newborn can be heard crying during the call while dispatch stayed on the phone with the father, instructing him what to do for over ten minutes.

“Is it a boy or is it a girl?,” the dispatcher asked.

“It’s a boy. It’s a boy,” said the man.

“Congratulations,” the dispatcher said.
