Area gas prices continue to trend higher

Gas prices continue to climb regionally and nationally, but remain below levels from one year ago, according to GasBuddy.

A weekly GasBuddy survey found the average price for a gallon of gas in the Dayton area was $1.89 per gallon, up 11.3 cents from last week, and up almost 41 cents from a month ago. The Dayton area remains above the national average of $1.81 per gallon, up around seven cents from last week and month.

“While most of the gasoline market was pricing in the premium associated with the transition to summer-blend gasoline, last week’s strength in crude futures prices provided no relief for the rising gas prices,” said Will Speer, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst.

The Dayton area was on pace with the surrounding Ohio markets, with Cincinnati and Columbus also seeing price hikes over 10 cents per gallon.
