Area animal shelter says someone stole items from their garage sale

ST. PARIS — An area animal shelter is looking for answers after items were reportedly stolen from their garage sale Thursday.

Tanyna Jordan, Director of His Hands Extended Sanctuary in St. Paris, says the shelter hosts a garage sale twice a year to help raise money to support their work.

In a social media post, the shelter said the garage sale got off to a “disappointing start” after some items were stolen.

According to Jordan, some of the items for the garage sale had to be left outside due to limited space, so she knew there was a risk that things could get stolen.

“We worked really late and set up last night and everybody was so generous— they brought us so many wonderful things,” Jordan said. “We couldn’t get everything inside, so we put it out underneath these nice awnings to be safe from the weather, and we covered them with blankets.”

When Jordan arrived Thursday morning, she found that more than half of what they had outside was stolen.

A spokesperson for the Village of St. Paris told News Center 7 they are aware items were taken from the garage sale.

The police department is also aware of the incident and is working to gather more information, the spokesperson said.

“I just want everybody to know that while this is upsetting, and nobody likes this kind of behavior, hopefully we’re looking at it as maybe they needed it more than we did,” Jordan said.
