Area actor, known for appearances in ‘The Office’ dies at 55

ARCANUM — Mark York, a Darke County native known for playing roles in hit shows “The Office” and “CSI New York” has died after a brief, unexpected illness, according to an obituary posted by Kreitzer Funeral Home in Arcanum.

York died at Miami Valley Hospital after the brief illness May 19, according to the obituary. He was 55.

York was most well known for his role as Billy Merchant in episodes of the hit series “The Office.” He appeared in four episodes of the show between 2006 and 2009, first appearing as as the character in the 2006 episode “The Injury.”

York also had appearances as characters in other major network shows like “CSI New York,” and “8 Simple Rules.”

York, who had been a paraplegic since 1988, graduated from Arcanum High School and later Anderson University as a triple major graduate, according to his obituary.

“He had such an outgoing, uplifting, positive attitude and personality. He always tried to look at what he could accomplish and do, not what he couldn’t do,” the obituary reads.

York had recently been working as an inventor and had obtained two patents for his inventions, according to the obituary.

Funeral services took place last Saturday.
