Amish families, county agencies feud over code violations in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY — Several Amish families and multiple Shelby County agencies are locked in a dispute over the alleged rule violations the families are said to have committed on their properties on Ohio route 47 in Maplewood, according to court documents.

Court documents filed in multiple civil suits in Shelby County Common Pleas Court allege the Amish families didn’t follow regulations regarding plumbing, human waste disposal, construction permits and other violations.

The attorney for the families says their religious beliefs have led to the feud over the violations.

The Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office said the laws are something that everyone in the county must follow.
