Aircraft from Mississippi base seek shelter from inclement weather at WPAFB

WPAFB — Miami Valley residents may be seeing an increase in aircraft in the skies over the next couple of days.

Aircraft from the 14th Flying Training Wing at Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi are evacuating to seek shelter from forecasted severe weather, according to a WPAFB spokesperson.

T-1 aircraft may begin arriving at WPAFB Tuesday morning.

“T1s are a medium range, twin engine jet trainer used in advanced phase of specialized undergraduate pilot training for students selected to fly airlift or tanker aircraft,” the spokesperson said in a release.

If those aircraft are evacuated to WPAFB, then Miami Valley residents could see the T-1s flying around tomorrow for pilot missions and readiness training requirements.
