2 local nurses indicted on charges accusing them of stealing drugs

MONTGOMERY COUNTY — Two nurses are facing felony charges after they were indicted today on charges accusing them of stealing medication.

Carolyn Gerakines, of Centerville, was indicted Tuesday on three felony charges of theft of drugs and a single count of illegal processing of drug documents. Gerakines is accused of stealing the medications from Miami Valley Hospital, according to the indictment.

Katie Mikel-Patterson, of Morrow, was indicted Tuesday on four felony counts of theft of drugs and four felony counts of illegal processing of drug documents. Mikel-Patterson is accused of stealing the medication from Kettering Health Network, according to the documents.

In Gerakines’ case, fentanyl was the drug at the center of one of the charges, the indictment read. In Mikel-Patterson’s case, oxycodone was the drug at the center of at least four of the counts against her.

In both cases, the crimes are said to have happened between the fall and winter, the indictments read.

Both women have their nursing licenses listed as inactive by the Ohio Board of Nursing, online records show.
