The Springfield post of Ohio State Highway Patrol, among other law enforcement and fire response agencies, responded to Interstate 70 westbound between North Urbana Street and Buena Vista Road at around 1 a.m. on reports of a crash, dispatchers for state troopers said.
Prior to emergency responders arriving on scene, dispatchers were informed that the crash involved multiple vehicles and potentially injured several.
Callers described a black Chevy Impala, driving at high speeds, crashed into another car and flipped over “multiple times,” according to dispatchers.
Directly following the crash, flames and smoke were seen by the 911 callers, dispatchers said.
When emergency responders arrived, they discovered the crash did involve two cars and injured at least one. Medics responded to the scene and treated those involved for minor injuries. Although dispatchers were not aware of any transports made to a nearby hospital, they reassured that any transports would be for non-life-threatening injuries.
State troopers also found one of the vehicles on its top, confirming the rollover. However, they were unable to verify that a vehicle fire started due to the crash.
The Springfield post of Ohio State Highway Patrol led the investigation into the crash.
