At least 16 area bars, restaurants make state’s first cut for license to host sports betting

DAYTON — At least 16 bars and restaurants in the Miami Valley have won licenses to host sports betting.

The Ohio Casino Control Commission, the controlling authority, has granted the licenses that are good for three years beginning Jan. 1, 2023.

Our news partners, WCPO in Cincinnati, report there will be a $700 cap on how much you can bet per week.

One of locations to make the cut was the Pour Haus in Dayton.

“I really just can’t wait to see what it’s going to do,” owner Mark Rothwell told News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott on Thursday night.

Patrick Murty, owner of Company 7 BBQ in Englewood, another license winner, said, “it’s exciting, and should bring in a different venue than we’ve had before.”

Both businesses filed the paperwork and paid the $1,000 permit application fee.

“It was, in general, a pretty quick process,” Murty said.

Betting is a familiar scene at both businesses because both offer the state-run Keno kiosks.

Customers said they are looking forward to not having to leave the state to place a bet.

“Every year, I normally go to Vegas,” Matthew Pateth, of Port Clinton, said. “I bet for the Browns to win the Super Bowl.”

* Froggy’s at the Lake in Lakeview

* Geez Grill and Pub in Centerville

* Good Time Charlie’s in Miamisburg

* Jackie’s Place in Rossburg

* Kelley’s Cafe & Pub in Jamestown

* Mister Hipp in Fairborn

* Ned Peppers LLC in Dayton

* Pla-Mor Lanes in Coldwater

* Pour Haus in Dayton

* Romer’s Bar & Grill in Bellbrook

* Tollhouse Tavern in Union

Ohio will join 30 other states in allowing legal sports gaming in bars and restaurants.
