Law enforcement agents investigated an apparent gunfight between multiple people that killed and injured 20 in total, CBS News reported.
Videos posted on social media displayed the heavy gunfire being exchanged on the road way near Ensenada. The video also showed at least three bodies lying on the ground.
The shooting took place early Saturday afternoon and caused a mobilization of army, navy, state, and local law enforcement agents to respond to the region.
Baja California officials explained that gunmen in one vehicle opened fire on other people and vehicles on the roadway.
“Perforations from gunshots and traces of blood” were found on the vehicles, State Prosecutor Ricardo Iván Carpio said.
There was also further evidence that the crossfire was a confrontation between members of organized crime groups, particularly cartels.
