1 taken to hospital after shooting in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE: Friday, Oct 15, 1 p.m.

One person was taken to the hospital after being shot in Springfield late Thursday night.

Police were first called to respond to a report of shots being heard in the area of Perrin Avenue and Lowry Avenue at around 11:21 p.m., according to a Springfield police incident report.

While en route, officers were notified by dispatch that a man with a rifle was running towards Johnny Lytle Avenue.

Officers were then advised a man had been shot in the 200 block of West Johnny Lytle Avenue, the police report said.

Upon arrival, officers found a male shooting victim with a bullet wound to the left shoulder laying on the floor inside of the home at the address.

Medics were then called to the scene and transported the victim to Springfield Regional Medical Center, according to the report. Details on the condition of the victim were not made available at this time.

The house was then taped off for a crime scene investigation.

Additional information on the suspect has not been released at this time.
