DAYTON — A 42-year-old man has been indicted on murder charges in connection to the deadly shooting of a Dayton woman on Hepburn Avenue earlier this month.
Police arrested Lerone McKenzie earlier this month at a home in the 4400 block of Broadbush Drive in Trotwood. He was indicted by a Montgomery County Grand Jury for murder, felonious assault, aggravated burglary and weapons charges on Thursday, according to Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr.
Aerial footage from the Ohio State Highway Patrol obtained by News Center 7 Wednesday showed troopers tracking a vehicle to Broadbush Drive, where Dayton police were able to surround the home and take McKenzie into custody.
The shooting was reported at an apartment in the 2200 block of Hepburn Avenue just before 11 p.m. Sept. 2.
Jovan Patterson, 31, was identified as the victim killed in the incident, Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger said in a media release. Her cause and manner of death remain under investigation and have not been determined.
Patterson was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The initial investigation indicates that the victim and suspect were acquainted, and detectives are working to uncover the facts and circumstances that led to this tragic event,” the spokesperson said.
The incident is being investigated by Dayton police homicide detectives.
McKenzie’s bond was set at $1 million. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 8:30 a.m.
