Man dead after motorcycle crash in Darke County

WAYNE TOWNSHIP — One person is dead after a motorcycle crash in Darke County Tuesday evening.

Around 7:30 p.m. Versailles police, fire and Darke County deputies were called to the 9300 block to reports of a motorcycle crash, according to Darke County Sheriff Mark Whittaker.

When authorities arrived on scene they found a motorcycle in a field with a single driver, described as an adult male, who was pronounced dead, according to Whittaker.

An initial investigation find that a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Jamison Road when it failed to navigate a slight curve in the road and traveled off the side of the road, into a ditch, throwing the operator from it, according to deputies.

Whittaker said the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.

He advised motorcyclists to slow down, wear property safety gear and to be aware. He also advised other drivers to look out for motorcyclists.
