1 dead, 1 hospitalized after Auglaize County crash

AUGLAIZE COUNTY — One person was killed in a crash that sent another person to the hospital in Auglaize County Friday morning.

According to the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened on SR 117 in Wayne Twp. at approximately 7 a.m.

Troopers said an initial investigation showed that Mason Staley, 34, of Lima, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu southeast on SR 177 when he lost control on the ice covered road and drove over the center line. Staley’s car was hit by an oncoming 2019 Kia Forte, driven by Bertha Kirwan, 53, of Lakeview.

Staley was pronounced dead on scene.

Kirwan was transported from the scene to Lima Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Troopers said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
