MONTGOMERY, Ohio — Private services were held today for Michael Currin, the University of Dayton student who died after falling out of a pickup truck last week.

The private mass started at 10:30 a.m. and a live-stream was provided for UD campus members who didn’t attend, the school announced last week.

A visitation was held at Moeller High School Sunday afternoon for family and friends.

Currin, 19, a first-year UD student, was found bloodied and critically injured in the early morning hours of Sept. 20. He died hours later at Miami Valley Hospital.

An investigation by Dayton police and UD public safety found Currin initially left campus to pick up a carry-out order at a nearby pizza restaurant on Wayne Avenue. During his walk there, he accepted a ride from the driver of a pickup truck and sat in the bed of the truck, police said.

During that ride, Currin fell from the bed of the moving truck, which caused his injuries, police said. The investigation remains open and police will meet with prosecutors for potential charges upon the completion of the investigation.

Family members ask those wishing to make donations to make them to the Michael Currin ’20 Memorial at Archbishop Moeller High School.
