For 49 years, people from all over the Miami Valley have flocked to Downtown Dayton for the start of the most wonderful time of the year. There is so much to do downtown during the holidays. And if you’re not able to get downtown for the official kickoff of the season on November 26, watch WHIO-TV Channel 7 to see The Dayton Holiday Festival’s Grande Illumination, LIVE beginning at 7:30pm.

Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist McCall Vrydaghs will take you downtown and behind the scenes of the festival for a look at how a beautiful 45-foot spruce tree is placed and lit with thousands of sparkling lights on Courthouse Square. You’ll hear from the volunteers who bring joy to all those who witness the Dayton Children’s Parade Spectacular in Lights, and you’ll meet the man behind the technology that makes the Jingle Lights dance to synchronized holiday music as you drive through Dayton city streets.

You’ll get a peak at some beloved Dayton traditions like the Rike’s holiday windows which can be seen at the Wintergarden in the Schuster Center, and the Virginia Kettering Train Display in the lobby of the Stratacache Tower.

The show also celebrates the city’s return to the arts—with a behind the curtain look at the Dayton Ballet, The Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and the Contemporary Dayton, art gallery. You’ll also get a tour of some of the city’s best places to shop, eat and play.

There’s no place to celebrate the holidays like downtown Dayton. So, watch November 26 to make your holiday plans, and for a live countdown to the big tree lighting beginning at 7:30pm.

The Dayton Holiday Festival is brought to the community by the Downtown Dayton Partnership. The Grande Illumination is presented by AES Ohio, The Dayton Children’s Parade Spectacular in Lights is sponsored by White Allen Chevrolet.
