Sugarcreek Elsa’s reduces services after worker tests positive

SUGARCREEK TWP. — Elsa’s Corner Cantina in Sugarcreek Township has limited its operations after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

Ownership Partner Jason Day told News Center 7′s Sean Cudahy, the employee tested positive Friday after coming into contact with someone who recently returned from Florida – a hot spot currently in the pandemic.

Day said test results came back early Friday morning and the restaurant closed down that morning. Day said the worker was wearing a mask when serving customers last week.

Day said employees that worker came into contact with are now quarantining for 14 days, but none have tested positive so far.

Because of the limited staffing levels, the restaurant is currently offering carry out service only. The restaurant also underwent a deep cleaning.

None of the workers at the Elsa’s Sugarcreek Township location work at other locations, Day said.

This is just the latest blow to a restaurant in the Miami Valley, with the industry hit hard in recent months.

“Some days it’s hard, but it’s something we all love to do,” Day said.

“At the end of the day, we’re doing what we love, and we just want to make sure our customers and staff are healthy.”

Elsa’s said barring new developments, the restaurant plans to return to regular service July 9.
