Suspicious package that prompted investigation at South Vienna school deemed safe

SOUTH VIENNA — A suspicious package found at South Vienna Elementary School Thursday that prompted an evacuation and investigation by the Dayton Police Bomb Squad was deemed as being safe, according to Northeastern Local Schools Superintendent Dr. John Kronour.

Fire crews were first dispatched to the school on West Main Street in South Vienna around 10:10 a.m. Thursday on reports of a possible suspicious package at the school.

An investigation was launched after a soda can was found in a bathroom covered in duct tape, Kronour said. During the course of the investigation, the can was found to only contain water inside and was not dangerous.

Students were evacuated to Northeastern High School during the investigation and parents were asked to pick up their children.

Additional details were not released.
