1 in custody after argument leads to shooting at family member’s burial service in Jefferson Twp.

JEFFERSON TWP. — UPDATE @ 4:06 p.m.:

One person is in custody after a shooting in Jefferson Twp. Friday afternoon.

An initial investigation revealed that an argument broke out between family members who were attending a burial of a relative at a cemetery on S. Union Road, according to a release from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

During the argument the suspect, identified as a male, took out a gun. As the fight continued, the weapon was fired and a family member of the suspect was shot in the leg around 1:30 p.m.

The victim was taken from the scene by family members, but was later found on the grounds of the Dayton VA Medical Center. They were then transported to Miami Valley Hospital.

Deputies said the suspect was later located at a hotel off of Dryden Road. Deputies on scene previously said two people were taken into custody, but a release clarified that one person was taken into custody and transported to the Special Investigation Unit.

The incident remains under investigation.
